Hostility Level (Neutral)

A dolphin is a neutral mob. The term mob is short for mobile and is used to refer to all living, moving creatures in the game such as chickens, creepers, and dolphins. Because a dolphin is a neutral mob, it will only attack you in Survival mode if you attack the dolphin first. It will never attack you in Creative mode.

Health Points

In Minecraft, a dolphin has 5 hearts  for health. This gives a dolphin 10 health points (because 1 heart = 2 health points). To kill a dolphin, you need to inflict 10 points of damage to the dolphin.

Where to Find Dolphins

In Minecraft, dolphins can be found in the Lukewarm Ocean and Deep Lukewarm Ocean biomes.

Lukewarm Ocean

Deep Lukewarm Ocean

While dolphins are generally found swimming in the water, they can not stay submerged indefinitely. They will need to leap out of the water every once in a while to get a breath of air. This makes a dolphin a very unique mob because if it stays on land for too long or stays submerged for too long, it will start to take damage and die. If a dolphin is on land and close to water, it will try to jump back into the water.

If you are having trouble finding a dolphin, you can summon a dolphin using a cheat or you can use a spawn egg.

Weapon

A dolphin does not carry a weapon.

Attack Method

In Minecraft, a dolphin swims towards you and bumps into you when it attacks.

Drops

When you kill a dolphin in Minecraft, it will drop raw cod.

Make sure you pick up any dropped items before they disappear. They are useful and should be kept in your inventory to be used later.

Experience Points

As you play the game, you will gain experience. The most common way to gain experience is by killing mobs. When a mob is killed you will see tiny green and yellow balls appear and move towards you.

These orbs represent experience points. Unfortunately, when you kill a dolphin, you will not gain any experience points.

Special Skills

If you feed a dolphin Raw Cod or Raw Salmon, it will swim towards the nearest Ocean Ruins or Shipwreck.
