This Minecraft tutorial explains all about goats (also referred to as mountain goats) with screenshots and step-by-step instructions. Let’s learn about goats in Minecraft.

Background

The following is a picture of what a goat looks like in Minecraft:

Hostility Level Neutral Mob
Health Points 10 health points
 x 5
Where to Find In the Frozen Peaks, Jagged Peaks and Snowy Slopes biomes
Weapon None
Attack Method Currently does not attack
(in a future release, the goat will ram you)
Drops None
Experience Points 1-3 experience points

Hostility Level (Neutral)

A goat is a neutral mob. The term mob is short for mobile and is used to refer to all living, moving creatures in the game such as chickens, creepers, and goats. Because a goat is a neutral mob, it will only attack you in Survival mode if you attack the goat first. It will never attack you in Creative mode.

FUTURE FEATURE: As of Minecraft 1.17 and 1.18, the goat does not attack back yet (so it is basically acting as a passive mob instead of a neutral mob). This “neutral” hostility feature will be added in a future release of Minecraft.

Health Points

In Minecraft, a goat has 5 hearts  for health. This gives a goat 10 health points (because 1 heart = 2 health points). To kill a goat, you need to inflict 10 points of damage to the goat.

Where to Find Goats

In Minecraft, you can find goats in the Frozen Peaks, Jagged Peaks and Snowy Slopes biomes.

Frozen Peaks

Jagged Peaks

Snowy Slopes

If you are having trouble finding a goat, you can summon a goat using a cheat or you can use a spawn egg.

Weapon

A goat does not carry a weapon.

Attack Method

As of Minecraft 1.17 and 1.18, you are safe to walk near a goat and it will not attack or cause you any damage. And if you attack a goat, it will just run around. It will not attack you back.

FUTURE FEATURE: In a future release of Minecraft, a goat will ram you.

Drops

When you kill a goat in Minecraft, it will currently not drop anything. This may change in a future release of Minecraft.

Experience Points

As you play the game, you will gain experience. The most common way to gain experience is by killing mobs. When a mob is killed you will see tiny green and yellow balls appear and move towards you.

These orbs represent experience points. When you kill a goat, you will gain 1-3 experience points.
