Hostility Level (Hostile)

A witch is a hostile mob. The term mob is short for mobile and is used to refer to all living, moving creatures in the game such as chickens, creepers, and witches. Because a witch is a hostile mob, it will attack you in Survival mode but not Creative mode.

Health Points

In Minecraft, a witch has 13 hearts  for health. This gives a witch 26 health points (because 1 heart = 2 health points). To kill a witch, you need to inflict 26 points of damage to the witch.

Where to Find Witches

In Minecraft, you can find witches in most Overworld biomes in light levels of 7 or less. Witches will spawn in the dark, usually at night. Once a witch has spawned in the dark, it can survive in the daylight.

If you are having trouble finding a witch, you can summon a witch using a cheat or you can use a spawn egg.

Witch Hut

If you look carefully in the Swamp biome, you will sometimes find a Witch Hut. When the world was first generated, a witch spawned inside of the Witch Hut. This is a picture of what a Witch Hut looks like in Minecraft:

Weapon

A witch is armed with splash potions such as: Splash Potion of Weakness, Splash Potion of Poison, Splash Potion of Harming and Splash Potion of Slowness.

Attack Method

In Minecraft, a witch has a special attack. It will throw harmful splash potions at you causing you damage until you die. The most common splash potions that it uses is Weakness, Poison, Harming and Slowness. You can drink milk to remove these potion effects while in battle with a witch.

Drops

When you kill a witch in Minecraft, it will drop different items each time, such as glowstone dust, redstone dust, sugar, sticks, spider eyes, gunpowder, glass bottles or Potions of Healing.

Make sure you pick up any dropped items before they disappear. They are useful and should be kept in your inventory to be used later.

Experience Points

As you play the game, you will gain experience. The most common way to gain experience is by killing mobs. When a mob is killed you will see tiny green and yellow balls appear and move towards you.

These orbs represent experience points. When you kill a witch, you will gain 5-8 experience points.
